Hello and Welcome to my Website!
I am delighted to announce the publication of my first book:
ADVENTURES WITH NATURE
A Story about Olivia and Her Little Dog, Jake
This is a wonderful story about a girl and her experiences with nature.
I wanted to be sure to show how each of us are born with an innate ability to communicate with animals. We all are born with a profound connection to nature. When I say nature, I mean all that Earth sustains: rivers, trees, animals (both wild and domestic), rocks, wind, etc.
It is time to reconnect and remember our connection to our earth mother. If you really think about it, you can see that she truly is the giver of all that sustains us… food, water, air. And it’s not just our necessities that she provides. The glorious sights from the Grand Canyon to a colorful little crocus blooming in early spring, can take our breath away and bring us great joy.
The characters in the book are real people in my life. Olivia is my niece and Jake is her dog. Now, he is 12 years old. He is such a sweet little guy.
In the book, Olivia and her Aunt pick up trash at a picnic area. This part of the book comes from an actual experience I had at about age 24. I was with a friend in Toronto, taking in the sites and the Phantom when we came across newspaper that had been blown all around an area. My friend went around and picked up the trash. I sat; I guess I felt like it wasn’t my job. Looking back, I realize how blinded I was. If I could go back, I would have happily picked up the trash with her out of respect for the earth.
The canoeing scene comes from many trips my husband and I have taken kayaking and canoeing on our Indiana rivers. We really enjoy the quiet and peace of these trips. The perspective from a boat is so calm and lovely. We often surprise deer who come to the river to drink.
Well, I won’t give too much of the book away. I’d like for you to read it and enjoy it with some surprises.
Thank you so much for supporting me and my endeavors. It is my hope that those who read my book feel happy and that it renews their connection with nature.
Warmly,
Maggie

There was a lovely article in the Sunday paper (May 22, 2011) about local children's book authors. I am honored to be included in the article with such remarkable women.
